| | Leather Shoes-How to Take Care of Them
One thing you have to know about mens leather shoes is that for a good, quality pair, you get what you pay for. You need to learn about proper shoe care for leather shoes and I'm here to teach you all about it. I remember when I was a kid, my father would wear nothing but Florsheim Shoes. He had many pairs and would keep them looking new by polishing them all about once a week. Eventually he smartened up and realized he had someone to polish all of shoes for him, me. He would give me an allowance and I would polish all of his shoes for him. He showed me exactly how to do it with the wax paste and told me never to use the cream or liquid type because it didn't give as good a shine nor was it as protective for the leather shoes. He taught me how to shine his leather shoes with a shoe shine brush and taught me the technique for doing it correctly. How many of you guys use shoe trees? So many people just don't use them and wonder why their shoes don't seem to look new as long as they should or last as long as they should. Cedar shoe trees are such a big part of proper leather shoe care. Shoe trees should be made of cedar that helps keep the shape of your leather shoes when you are not wearing them. The cedar smell, which is a pleasant smell, keeps your leather shoes fresh and absorbs the moisture out of them. The aroma penetrates into the leather of the shoe naturally. Real cedar shoe trees are the only thing you should stuff into your shoes so forget the cheap plastic junk. Cleaning leather shoes, during the winter can be a challenge. First thing to do to get rid of the white salt stains we get on our shoes from wearing them in the snow is wiping your leather shoes down with a rag and vinegar. Don't worry, it won't harm the leather, you're just wiping them down and drying them off. Then follow up with a good paste shoe polish like Kiwi paste wax, not the liquid. I would not recommend the liquid shoe polish, it's not worth the bottle they put the stuff in. The paste seems to penetrate much better and seals the leather the way it needs to be sealed. Make sure you rotate your leather shoes so you don't wear them two days in a row. The leather in your shoes need to dry out naturally, so let them rest at least a day. Once you start acquiring more shoes you'll rotate them to point where you wear them maybe once a week. If you follow the suggestions here, your leather shoes will last you the way you want them to last and look newer longer. Shop for Leather Shoes Here. | | |
