| | Bass Weejuns-The Right Way To Take Care Of ThemOkay, so the UPS Driver or Santa Claus just came and dropped off the box you've been waiting or trying to wait patiently for. Your new Bass Weejuns. Well to take proper care of you new Bass Weejuns you don't just stick your feet into them and go. It's not exactly a car with a full tank of gas. Bass Weejuns like any shoes need to be prepped a little. Come to think of it, so do cars. The first thing you need to do is make sure your new Bass Weejuns fit. Check. Next thing that I always do is to polish them. Oh, they are already shiny? That isn't the only reason to polish a new pair of Bass Weejuns. The reason you want to polish them is to add a better coating of wax than they come with from the factory. The wax works as way of further protecting the leather that the Bass Weejuns are made of. If the Weejuns are your standard Black or Burgundy, I recommend using a wax type shoe polish for that particular color. Kiwi is what I've been using forever. Make sure you have an applicator that is just for that particular color. My favorite thing to polish Bass Weejuns with is an old toothbrush. I'll have an old toothbrush that is for black and one for wine and one for brown as well. Use the shoe polish to get into all the creases of the hand sewn mocassin construction that Bass Weejuns have, give a good once over the large swathes of leather. Do this for both shoes and let them sit for a few minutes for the shoe polish to work its magic. If your new Bass Weejuns are a tan or oily tan leather, I recommend that you use a neutral shoe polish which is basically colorless. Your weejuns have sat for a few minutes now it's time to polish them. I've always preferred to use a horse hair shoe brush. I put my hand inside the shoes and in a rhythmic motion, I buff back and forth to a nice luster. First one shoe, than the other. You do this to prep your Bass Weejuns before you ever even wear them. After you're done wearing them for the day, I highly recommend putting genuine cedar shoe trees in your Bass Weejuns so your shoes go back to their original shape and it absorbs all the moisture out of the leather. In your sweat as you well know is plenty of salt and you don't want that stuff in the leather of your Bass Weejuns. If you get any mud or dirt on your weejuns, make sure you wipe them clean with a damp rag first and then put your shoe trees in. If you take those steps you will ensure a longer wear time of enjoyment and your shoes will stay newer looking longer. Find Bass Weejuns Here | | |
